Our Birth Doulas are ready to support you.

Lindsey Gardner

My name is Lindsey Bussiere (Gardner) and I am a Birth Doula, yoga teacher, and educator. I live in Saskatoon with my supportive husband, our son, and three “fur children”. It has been my privilege to work with families for the last several years in the yoga community, but I wanted another way to support women through their pregnancies. Travelling to Calgary in February 2018, I trained with DONA International as a Birth Doula and took on my first client shortly afterwards. My experience has led me to work with all types of families - first/second/third babies, home births, and hospital births. After going through infertility and loss myself, I get especially excited to support anyone coming from that community as well.

The birth world has changed drastically in the last century and continues to do so, which is why I find it essential to collaborate with like-minded professionals and deliver evidence based supports for families of all walks of life. I feel truly honoured to support families through a birth because each one is wild, beautiful, unique, and a life changing experience. When I am chosen as a Birth Doula, the ultimate goal is “healthy mom, healthy baby” but empowering a mama to make choices about her birth, and helping a family navigate the start of this new phase of life is truly rewarding.

Ruth Fayomi

***Please note - Ruth is now located in Edmonton, AB***

Hi there! My name is Ruth, and I’m a birth and postpartum doula!

I’ve been interested in all things pregnancy, motherhood and childcare from a very young age and have always dreamed of how to merge my career with this vocation of mine. Years and a career in pharmacy later, I discovered a new and seemingly under-utilized career path in becoming a birth/postpartum doula.

This is my passion project! From being the oldest child & grandchild and growing up surrounded by pregnancies & children, to babysitting and volunteering with children, being a doula is what makes my heart sing.

I was shocked when I saw an article on Forbes stating that the chance of a black woman dying from a pregnancy-related complication was "five times higher than white parents to be." It was the push I needed to make this new path a reality for me. Many people don't know the benefits of a doula and I'll be honest, I was happily overwhelmed by how much a doula can impact a mama's birth story. If me being a doula can help just one mama have a positive birth experience, then I know I am doing my best to also help change the statistics Forbes quoted. Learning the current doula statistics was all I needed to know that I wanted to be able to help mamas-to-be, of all ages, races, sexualities and more achieve this; to learn to trust and appreciate their bodies and trust the innate process of childbirth.

Although I will not be bringing my healthcare profession into my doula work, I am blessed that my line of work and life & volunteer experiences have meant that I have worked with people of all walks of life, constantly learning how to effectively hold an open space with unconditional support for anyone I meet! (When I’m not working/volunteering, you can find me trying out yet another complicated Starbucks order, reading, or hanging on silks.)

To my mamas-to-be, their partners and/or support people, I would be honoured and thrilled to work with you and be a part of such a monumental part of your journey!

Kae Edmison

My name is Kae Edmison and I am a certifying full-spectrum doula and psychology student at the U of S. I was born and raised in Saskatoon & currently reside here with my partner and our 2 dogs. I am especially interested in learning about nutrition, child development, and parental mental health. For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated by “where babies come from” and am so grateful I am now able to support my clients from preconception all the way through to postpartum, and even loss through education, physical, and emotional support.

While I have not yet given birth myself, I believe that every birthing experience is unique and should be treated as such. As a survivor of sexual assault, I understand how our choices and experiences are carried as stress in our bodies, so providing trauma-informed care is central to my practice. As a doula, I am happy to provide educational resources, but the “best” way to birth is not only determined by which medical interventions you do or don’t want. The best birthing experience is one where you feel empowered by your choices, comfortable in your own body, and confident to make decisions on behalf of yourself and your baby. With every emotion, thought, or sensation, I will be by your side to help you (and your partner) navigate this experience of bringing a new life into the world.

Shemiah Bragg

***Please note - Shemiah is now located in Moose Jaw, SK***

My name is Shemiah, and I am a birth and postpartum doula! I have been fascinated with birth and pregnancy since I was young, amazed that our bodies are capable of such incredible things to the extent of bringing new life into the world. I have always wanted to learn as much as I could about pregnancy and how connected we are to each stage of our babies’ growth, and all of the intricacies of raising children. I spent a large portion of my teen years reading all sorts of books, articles, and parenting forums to try and satisfy my curiosity.

I am a person who thrives on quality time and connection, whether that is with friends, family, or furry friends. I absolutely love making and creating things, from building things by hand, art, sewing, cooking, or baking. I especially love pasta, and often make my own pastas and sauces from scratch. I feel most at peace spending time outdoors, especially in warm sunny weather. When I was a kid I always dreamt I could be a mermaid, because swimming and being in the water is one of my most favourite things.

One of my biggest motivations for working as a doula was seeing a lot of fear, uncertainty, and judgement in the world of birth and parenthood. My goal as a birthworker is to help you feel strong, confident, and empowered during your pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. During this beautiful, world-changing time in your life, I aim to provide information, resources, and support tailored to your individual needs. Whether it's your first baby, or your fifth, I will be there for you, listening, encouraging, and supporting you to the best of my abilities.

Kayla Madder

My name is Kayla Madder and I am a Birth & Postpartum Doula! I am a mother of three boys and have a wonderful husband. I am passionate about supporting new and expecting families because I see this as one of the most important (and under-supported) seasons in life.

I come from a ten-year background in the Sciences (Biology, Biotechnology, Genetics, Immunology, Psychology), so keeping my work as a Doula evidence-based is critical to me. I want to offer you information and sources that are based on research, not anecdotes or trends. It is also important to me that I can provide you with support in a way that builds your confidence in your own decisions as a parent, and that when my time with your family is done (whether that be after hours, weeks, or months) that you feel empowered and knowledgeable as you move forward on your birthing and parenting journeys.

I have personally been a single parent, student-parent, married parent, breastfeeding mom, pumping mom, formula feeding mom, combination feeding mom, and so on… In addition to my own experiences, I have spent several years supporting and advocating for families prior to becoming a Doula, so I can empathize with a wide range of family circumstances and choices. I come from a place of zero judgement and work hard to support you in your own choices for your child, your family, and yourself.

I do this work because I am passionate about maternal and family wellness in this time when we can feel bombarded by conflicting information, feel judged for our choices, feel isolated from others and our prior selves, and when perinatal mood disorders (depression, anxiety, etc.) are on the rise. I truly work with the goal of happier, healthier parents, babies, and families, and would love to meet you to see how we could work together to best serve your family.

Bri Koop

Hi there, I’m Bri! Saskatoon has been my home since 2009, when I moved here with my (now) husband, Brian, who was born and raised just outside of Saskatoon. In the decade and a half that we’ve been together we’ve added 3 beautiful children to our family, navigated the seemingly insurmountable grief of pregnancy and infant loss, started and maintained our own respective small businesses, fostered dozens of cats and kittens, and (on a possibly related note) have also developed an increasingly intense affinity for coffee.

Besides coffee, cats, my husband, and my children, my greatest passion and joy in life is being the doula-tog (Doula x Photographer combo - no, I didn’t make up that term!) behind the lens and families at Driftwood + Co, Saskatoon Birth Photographer.

Two years after co-founding local perinatal loss support organization, Empty Arms, in 2015, I began my own journey towards supporting families through pregnancy and birth while simultaneously providing them with beautiful, artful, timeless memories of their birth stories. Photographic documentation is a unique and invaluable way to preserve and reflect on the memory of your baby’s transition into this world, along with the exquisitely surreal process that brought them here.

I am so excited to join this collaborative of incredible support people, while bringing my own unique talents and services to our families.

Anno Bell

My name is Anno and I am a birth and postpartum doula, a breathwork facilitator, and a somatic/ADHD coach, as well as mama to four bombastic humans. I began learning about all things pregnancy and birth 21 yrs ago when I was pregnant with our first baby, and FINALLY took my doula training in 2015, after 2 hospital births and two home water births and years of parenting my own tiny ones. I consider it an honour to be invited to support families in these most tender of moments, and endeavour to walk with gentleness and humility in both birthing and postpartum spaces.

I believe that pregnancy, birth and postpartum days are sacred moments in a person’s life. Each step of that journey has the potential to be empowering and to help people connect deeply with their own incredible capacity for strength. By surrounding oneself with support people who trust the inate wisdom of birth and the body, as well as honouring their own inner knowing, clients can claim their strength and weave it into all other aspects of their lives, including the parenting of the new little people they have ushered into the world.

When families are well supported in pregnancy, labour and the immediate postpartum period, they often experience a more peaceful transition into parenthood, which supports the development of a strong foundation for the family to grow together.

I offer my clients the gift of non-judgemental, compassionate presence, prenatal education and whole person support throughout the prenatal, labour, birth and postpartum period. Together we will explore your upcoming birth (hopes, fears and practicalities) and discuss how you can prepare for both birth and parenthood. I will help you to understand some of what you might encounter during the birthing process and how you can most effectively advocate for yourself and your baby throughout. We will collaborate on how your birth support team can best support you physically, spiritually and emotionally during the birthing experience, and how you can experience more ease to the transitional period after birth. In a postpartum role, I work to support the family unit, including other children, partner, and the mom/baby dyad. The postpartum support is co-created by the clients/doula - based on what the clients perceive their needs to be in that moment.

I believe in the power of communication in building relationships of trust and support, and I work diligently to bring that authenticity and connection to each of my doula/client relationships, so that both you (and your partner) feel heard, secure and supported throughout the process.

Summer Storm

My name is Summer Storm and I am a Indigenous Birth Support Worker! I have 3 small children and a very supportive husband. When we were pregnant with our third child, I wanted to incorporate a lot of traditional knowledge with my pregnancy. Keeping my environment very positive was a big thing for me as with my last two pregnancies I allowed the negative to be around me. I found those birthing experiences to be unpleasant. I was so happy to hear that JPCH offered an Indigenous birth support worker to be there for you and ours was so lovely! Talking with her and creating that bond for that short time we had together was something I will forever remember. She is most of my reason for doing what I do today!

With my training, we were taught to be advocates for our Indigenous women and I want you to feel safe! I can answer any questions or concerns you might have and we can even incorporate a prayer and a smudge. I would love to help assist you create a birth plan and tell you about some traditional knowledge. Share stories of our background and birthing practices. Create that positive atmosphere for not just you but for the whole family.

I really hope we can get together soon for some good laughs and make you feel calm and confident in this new phase of life.

Gina Khonje

An Alberta girl born and raised, I have now lived in Saskatoon for 16 years with my husband and 3 children. I am totally sold on the charm of Saskatchewan and the deep relationships I have experienced here. Over the years I have participated in community building through extensive volunteer work with various non-profits. I see my foray into doula work as an opportunity to grow my community even more.

As child #2 in a family of 3 kids, it is probably the middle kid fighting spirit that has made me a natural advocate. I am not afraid of a little healthy confrontation. I was drawn to birth work after experiencing first hand the power of good support in childbirth and how even a gentle question, “Is that what you really want?” can change an outcome. During all 3 of my own births, none of which went “according to plan”, I felt empowered and held because of my amazing, knowledgeable birth partners. So now I work with clients to help them in the same way. I want both partners to feel empowered, supported, and confident in their decisions, knowing they have the right information. I am willing to advocate in a gentle way for clients wishes, preferred timelines, and comfort in situations where medical staff preferences may conflict with a client’s desires. I bring a nurturing, comforting presence into a birthing space and love to create a homebirth atmosphere for clients who deliver in hospital, by choice or lack thereof.

When I am not parenting or supporting clients, I can be found gardening, running, cross country skiing, or volunteering with something political.
