Our Postpartum Doulas are ready to support you.

Kayla Madder

My name is Kayla Madder and I am a Certified Postpartum Doula! I am a mother of three boys and have a wonderful husband. I am passionate about supporting new and expecting parents because I see this as one of the most important (and under-supported) times for North American families.

I come from a ten-year background in the sciences (Biology, Biotechnology, Genetics, Immunology, Psychology), so keeping my work as a doula evidence-based is critical to me. I want to offer you information and sources that are based on research, not anecdotes or trends. It is also important to me that I can provide you with support in a way that builds your confidence in your own decisions as a parent, and that when my time with your family is done (whether that be just after a couple hours, or weeks) that you feel self-empowered and knowledgeable as you move forward on your parenting journey.

I have personally been a single parent, student-parent, married parent, breastfeeding mom, pumping mom, formula feeding mom, and so on… In addition to my own experiences, I have spent several years supporting and advocating for families prior to becoming a postpartum doula, so I can empathize with a wide range of family circumstances and choices. I come from a place of zero judgement and work hard to support you in your own choices for your child, your family, and yourself.

I do this work because I am passionate about maternal and family wellness in this time when we can feel bombarded by conflicting information, feel judged for our choices, feel isolated from others and our prior selves, and when postpartum mood disorders (depression, anxiety, etc.) are on the rise. I truly work with the goal of happier, healthier parents, babies, and families, and would love to meet you to see how we could work together to best serve your family.

Robyn Cadamia

Hi! My name is Robyn and I am a Postpartum Doula. I have two children of my own, and from the time I began research for my own first birth experience, I was captivated by the depth and mystery of the birthing process and the power of a birthing person. I trained as a Birth Doula with DONA in 2018 and eventually pursued training as a Postpartum Doula with Motherwit in 2020. I have worked with children and families for many years in childcare capacities as well as to support family members with disabilities, and I am humbled by the privilege of joining people in their homes to help simplify and lighten their days.

My husband, daughters and I moved to Saskatoon from Vancouver, and we were welcomed so warmly by neighbors—from lasagnas to bubbles for the girls to friendly check-ins while we settled. Friends helped our kiddos transition by taking them to play at the park which allowed my husband and I to focus on unpacking and joyfully setting up our home. Without these small, practical offerings of support, our transition would not have gone as smoothly as it did, life would have been chaos and boxes for much longer, and our experience of a new life in a new city might have been marred by stress, anxiety and isolation instead of delight, wonder and belonging. I am new to postpartum work, but I would love to be that neighbor for you and your family as you transition into life with your new baby. Whatever you feel you need—to sleep, be fed, or be heard—I believe that feeling supported at the beginning of your parenting journey will make more room for delight and wonder in the days to come.

Kae Edmison

My name is Kae Edmison and I am a certifying full-spectrum doula and psychology student at the U of S. I was born and raised in Saskatoon and currently reside here with my partner and our 2 dogs. I am especially interested in learning about nutrition, child development, and parental mental health.

For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated by “where babies come from” and am so grateful I’m now able to support my clients from preconception all the way through to postpartum, and even loss through education, physical, and emotional support.

While I have not yet given birth myself, I believe that every birthing experience is unique and should be treated as such. As a survivor of sexual assault, I understand how our choices and experiences are carried as stress in our bodies, so providing trauma-informed care is central to my practice. As a doula, I am happy to provide educational resources, but the “best” way to birth is not only determined by which medical interventions you do or don’t want. The best birthing experience is one where you feel empowered by your choices, comfortable in your own body, and confident to make decisions on behalf of yourself and your baby.

With every emotion, thought, or sensation, I will be by your side to help you (and your partner) navigate this experience of bringing a new life into the world.

Ruth Fayomi

***Please note - Ruth is now located in Edmonton, AB***

Hi there! My name is Ruth, and I’m a birth and postpartum doula!

I’ve been interested in all things pregnancy, motherhood and childcare from a very young age and have always dreamed of how to merge my career with this vocation of mine. Years and a career in pharmacy later, I discovered a new and seemingly under-utilized career path in becoming a birth/postpartum doula.

This is my passion project! From being the oldest child & grandchild and growing up surrounded by pregnancies & children, to babysitting and volunteering with children, being a doula is what makes my heart sing.

I was shocked when I saw an article on Forbes stating that the chance of a black woman dying from a pregnancy-related complication was "five times higher than white parents to be." It was the push I needed to make this new path a reality for me. Many people don't know the benefits of a doula and I'll be honest, I was happily overwhelmed by how much a doula can impact a mama's birth story. If me being a doula can help just one mama have a positive birth experience, then I know I am doing my best to also help change the statistics Forbes quoted. Learning the current doula statistics was all I needed to know that I wanted to be able to help mamas-to-be, of all ages, races, sexualities and more achieve this; to learn to trust and appreciate their bodies and trust the innate process of childbirth.

Although I will not be bringing my healthcare profession into my doula work, I am blessed that my line of work and life & volunteer experiences have meant that I have worked with people of all walks of life, constantly learning how to effectively hold an open space with unconditional support for anyone I meet! (When I’m not working/volunteering, you can find me trying out yet another complicated Starbucks order, reading, or hanging on silks.)

To my mamas-to-be, their partners and/or support people, I would be honoured and thrilled to work with you and be a part of such a monumental part of your journey!

Katelynn Robertson

Hey there! I'm Katelynn (she/her) and I completed DONA Postpartum Doula training in July 2020. I came to postpartum doula work because of my experience bringing our daughter into the world. She was diagnosed prenatally with Down syndrome as well as several medical conditions. Our first few months with her entailed delivery in a different city, surgeries, coming home on oxygen and a feeding tube, and dozens of follow-up appointments at the children's hospital. While we had incredible support from friends & family, there was so much attention on our daughter's medical needs that it was very difficult to even consider our own adjustment to this brand new experience as parents. Had I known back then that postpartum doulas existed, I would have fallen at one's feet with a squeak for "Help!!"

I would love to offer my knowledge, training, and experience to help your family settle into life with your little one. I can provide hands-on, practical help as you recover physically and emotionally from birth, figure out feeding (whatever that looks like for you!), and adjust to daily life with a new baby. I have a special place in my heart for families of newborns with medical needs and/or chromosomal differences, and can also provide support if your baby is in the NICU.

I am actively pursuing further training & education around providing support to families experiencing loss, whether through miscarriage, termination, or infant death, and can also support you if this is a road you have walked or may currently be walking.

I love baking, hunting for vintage finds, and reading books with my now 5 year-old girl. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Behavioural Science, and prior to the last 3 years as a stay-at-home mama, I worked in the non-profit sector in both administrative and case working roles. It is an honour to help prepare families for baby's arrival and to support them through the 'fourth trimester' and beyond.

Shemiah Bragg

***Please note - Shemiah is now located in Moose Jaw, SK***

My name is Shemiah, and I am a birth and postpartum doula! I have been fascinated with birth and pregnancy since I was young, amazed that our bodies are capable of such incredible things to the extent of bringing new life into the world. I have always wanted to learn as much as I could about pregnancy and how connected we are to each stage of our babies’ growth, and all of the intricacies of raising children. I spent a large portion of my teen years reading all sorts of books, articles, and parenting forums to try and satisfy my curiosity.

I am a person who thrives on quality time and connection, whether that is with friends, family, or furry friends. I absolutely love making and creating things, from building things by hand, art, sewing, cooking, or baking. I especially love pasta, and often make my own pastas and sauces from scratch. I feel most at peace spending time outdoors, especially in warm sunny weather. When I was a kid I always dreamt I could be a mermaid, because swimming and being in the water is one of my most favourite things.

One of my biggest motivations for working as a doula was seeing a lot of fear, uncertainty, and judgement in the world of birth and parenthood. My goal as a birthworker is to help you feel strong, confident, and empowered during your pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. During this beautiful, world-changing time in your life, I aim to provide information, resources, and support tailored to your individual needs. Whether it's your first baby, or your fifth, I will be there for you, listening, encouraging, and supporting you to the best of my abilities.

Riley Vaskic

My name is Riley Vaskic and I am very happy to be a postpartum doula!

I am a certified birth nerd and find joy in everything pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Most of the time, you can find me reading up on new postpartum recipes, belly wrapping techniques, or learning about herbal concoctions and remedies. It is a blessing and a privilege to have the opportunity to share my knowledge and passion with new and expectant families. I do not take this work lightly and am deeply honoured every time a new family welcomes me into their precious postpartum space.

Prior to my work as a doula, I worked in the non-profit sector in various front-line advocacy roles supporting marginalized adults with mental health and/or addictions. I have completed my certification to work as an Educational Assistant (which I do part-time), my diploma in Community, Family, and Child Studies, and will be entering into 3rd year of my Child and Youth Care degree this coming fall. Both my education and my professional experience have reinforced the belief that early mother care is essential for the long-term wellness of individuals, families, and communities. In addition to my post-secondary education, I have spent hours upon hours studying herbalism, Ayurvedic wellness approaches, yoga, and meditation. These are the modalities that support my wellness and growth, and I try to weave them into my doula practice wherever I can.

As your postpartum doula, I will support you, nourish you, and most importantly, trust you while you journey forward into motherhood. In a world that is overwhelmingly noisy for new parents, I will listen to you, encourage you, and give you the space to tap into your own inner knowing and support you as you unfurl into the mother you are meant to be.

Jackie Shutra

Hello! I am Jackie and I am a Postpartum Doula. I am beyond blessed to have a wonderful husband, two teenage boys and a spunky dog that keep my life exciting.

Bringing home my new babies was one of the scariest things I’ve done. How was I to keep this tiny human alive when I was emotionally, physically and mentally exhausted? I learned about the value of postpartum support the hard way and made the decision many years ago that I would not let anyone around me feel alone in their new journey as a family. For almost 10 years, I’ve had the honour of supporting countless families begin their journeys as I’ve worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse on Postpartum as well as outside of the hospital setting. I’ve struggled knowing that frequently families were going home exhausted, overwhelmed and with very little support for this next step of their journey. I knew there had to be something better, started looking for more resources and came upon postpartum doula care. After finishing my Postpartum Doula course with DONA International this year, I knew this was where I was meant to be.

Although I will not be working as a nurse in my doula practice, the experience and knowledge base I have gained working with people from many cultures and social situations has been unequivocally priceless. I will support you, not only because I am passionate about postpartum work and squishy babies but because I truly care. I want to help you to have an informed and empowered start on this new adventure. I want to help you grow your confidence in caring for yourself and your baby the way you want, through non-judgemental, hands on support. Whether this is the first baby you’ve ever held or your 8th child, every parent deserves someone to encourage them, be attentive to their unspoken needs and nurture an environment of peace.

I would love to meet you and determine what your needs are and how we can work best together as a team to help you have a positive start on this journey of parenthood.

Anno Bell

My name is Anno and I am a birth and postpartum doula, a breathwork facilitator, and a somatic/ADHD coach, as well as mama to four bombastic humans. I began learning about all things pregnancy and birth 21 yrs ago when I was pregnant with our first baby, and FINALLY took my doula training in 2015, after 2 hospital births and two home water births and years of parenting my own tiny ones. I consider it an honour to be invited to support families in these most tender of moments, and endeavour to walk with gentleness and humility in both birthing and postpartum spaces.

I believe that pregnancy, birth and postpartum days are sacred moments in a person’s life. Each step of that journey has the potential to be empowering and to help people connect deeply with their own incredible capacity for strength. By surrounding oneself with support people who trust the inate wisdom of birth and the body, as well as honouring their own inner knowing, clients can claim their strength and weave it into all other aspects of their lives, including the parenting of the new little people they have ushered into the world.

When families are well supported in pregnancy, labour and the immediate postpartum period, they often experience a more peaceful transition into parenthood, which supports the development of a strong foundation for the family to grow together.

I offer my clients the gift of non-judgemental, compassionate presence, prenatal education and whole person support throughout the prenatal, labour, birth and postpartum period. Together we will explore your upcoming birth (hopes, fears and practicalities) and discuss how you can prepare for both birth and parenthood. I will help you to understand some of what you might encounter during the birthing process and how you can most effectively advocate for yourself and your baby throughout. We will collaborate on how your birth support team can best support you physically, spiritually and emotionally during the birthing experience, and how you can experience more ease to the transitional period after birth. In a postpartum role, I work to support the family unit, including other children, partner, and the mom/baby dyad. The postpartum support is co-created by the clients/doula - based on what the clients perceive their needs to be in that moment.

I believe in the power of communication in building relationships of trust and support, and I work diligently to bring that authenticity and connection to each of my doula/client relationships, so that both you (and your partner) feel heard, secure and supported throughout the process.
